The new team Corona Composite started in November of 2013 when 3 avid mountain bikers came together to build a team of young athletes. Coaches Mike Koval, Dana Pierce, and Kevin Carlson took the talking to action when our first official team member decided he wanted to try out High School Mountain Biking. Patrick McMahons school did not officially have a High School Mountain Biking team, and there was no Composite Team close by to join. Coach Carlson decided over frequented Starbucks coffee trips that we (the trio) needed to take the talk and put to action, and CCMTB was born.
Our First year felt much like a Team Bad news Bears, as we didn't have much to start with. Student athletes of all varieties took to the team with a sense of pride and determination. Coming on board to the team was our first female athlete (Madeline Bemis) of which took us by surprise as she started passing all the boys up our favorite training trail (Skyline Rd.) Winning Race after race and then State Championships for Freshman Girls. 2 Young guns Haden Metz and Blake Wray also started training with the team with hopes to start racing with the group when Jr High races started with SoCal League in the 2014 season. Although they were still not old enough, that didn't stop them from training. Now they are seen and known at many race events though out SoCal.
CCMTB's Second Season, 2015 became a big year for us. Winning Race after race with the help of 2 more Athletes that wanted to give racing for a team a try. Ama (JV), and Imea (Varsity) Nsek. Further yet new racer Jack Fitzpatrick (Freshman) taking it to the next level and excelling with win after win. Madeline Bemis petitioned and was approved to jump to Varsity from Sophomore. This proved to be a great play as it kept the entire League in suspense with the cat and mouse races though out the season. Madeline and her Rival Geraldine Guerrero tied for 1st place at Seasons end. We cannot forget about Zach Rusich (JV) continuously pushing himself to stay in the top 10 JV boys and that eggar goal to stand on the Podium one day. That day was at Castaic Lake where he proved he was the more capable rider in the heat. Our other student athletes all helped bring our Team to an over all win for SoCal, Kyle, Dylan, Mathew, Jake. The season ended with a great feeling of accomplishment and pride. Read the Full report here: https://madmimi.com/p/939b26?fe=1&pact=29970369417
